Kō Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga rātou, ko Ngāi Tuhoe, ko Ngāti Awa ōku iwi. Kei te mahi ahau i te kaiwhaakahua me kaitohu auahatanga. Ko Emma tōku ingoa.Kia ora. I’m Emma, a photographer and director based in te uru o Tāmaki Makaurau, West Auckland. I live and work in a beautiful part of the world surrounded by the dappled light of Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa, the Waitākere Ranges forest. We’re close to the wild beaches of the West Coast and not far from the paved streets of the city. It’s a constant source of inspiration and the perfect backdrop for my camera.
Sustainability and ethics are a constant feature in my mahi. I believe we can and should use our creative vices as powerful tools for transformation.
My interests and upbringing have always centred around these things, but it wasn’t until I started my own whanau that I became clear on how these things showed up in my everyday. My feet are now firmly planted in contrasting worlds, shaping my approach through a lens of compassion and reciprocity.
I’m now 3 years into my Te Reo Māori journey after completing a postgraduate programme in Leading Change for Good.
In my spare time, you’ll either find me immersed in my latest photography project or with my fave people. Coffee in hand, music up loud - close to home, among the trees that frame my view of the city. The door is always open.
