Hello. I'm Derek. I travel throughout New Zealand to shoot for my clients and often take on assignments in Australia, throughout the South Pacific and a bunch of other exciting locations further afield. I started out in 1994 as an action sports and adventure travel photographer, mainly because I just wanted to be outdoors all the time. These days I am shooting more and more commercial work with a focus on advertising and social media campaigns, architecture, design, jewellery, branding campaign work, tourism and destinations.In between my commercial jobs I challenge myself with a weekly photoblog (www.boxoflight.com) that is focused on the Kiwi beach and mountain lifestyle. It's a mixture of surfing, landscapes, beaches and mountains and it guarantees me lots of adventures each week.
My studio is based in the heart of Dunedin, but I have access to studios right throughout the country with a second base in the Waikato and one in Sydney.
